Strange behavior when capturing the boot volume

Hi guys,

I'm writing a windows tool that captures wim images of various drives on a machine, and it works perfectly on any drive but the boot drive. When trying to capture the boot drive it just creates a wim file containing the application files, leading me to believe this may have something to do with the application/UAC virtualization built into Windows 7. Is there some way to capture the boot volume with this API?

I don't believe you can capture an image of the currently booted volume. I've only ever captured images of Windows from WinPE. This would be a limitation of the Windows Imaging API, not this wrapper.

I always follow the steps laid out on TechNet:
  1. Install the OS
  2. Make customizations
  3. Run Sysprep
  4. Boot to Windows PE and capture image
